CADET FIRE FIGHTER SKILLS PROGRAM 2025 REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 qualification (Mathematics and Physical Science preferred)
- 18 years or older
- Must not suffer from fear of confined spaces or heights
- Must be medically and physically fit
- Must be able to work in a team and cope with stressful situations
- No Criminal Record
NOTE: All selected candidates will be required to undergo and pass the following mandatory fitness test.
- Reach test (1.9 m)
- 2.4 km run (Males 11 minutes and Females 13 minutes)
- Push-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
- Sit-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
- Dead load carries (2 x 25 kg drums over a distance of 100 m)
NOTE: Candidates who pass the physical test will:
- Pass a written assessment and interview.
- Provide fingerprints and identification numbers.
Identity numbers for the purpose of checking criminal records. - no other criminal clearances will be acceptable
- be required to undergo a City medical evaluation
- be required to undergo a compulsory drug test at a City testing center
You must pass a claustrophobia and acrophobia exam.
Special conditions attached to the post:
- Candidates must reside within the City of Cape Town Municipal Area
- No expectation of permanent employment upon completion of the program
- Only unemployed applicants will be considered
- Required to wear a uniform and protective clothing

Shortlisted applicants will be notified by SMS or phone call when they must go to the designated place to complete the mandatory exams. Shortlisted applicants are recommended to bring their own equipment, food, and drinks to the testing facility.
- All assessments are done through a process of elimination.
- Only candidates with no criminal background and no current criminal cases, including those awaiting trial or punishment, will be considered for employment.
- Only applicants who have completed a mandatory drug test and are deemed to be drug-free will be considered for employment.
- There should be no anticipation of obtaining a job offer after applying for it and then being tested and declared capable.
Canvassing by job candidates or anyone acting on their behalf for positions within the Council’s Service is banned, and evidence of such will invalidate the applicant’s application for appointment.
If appointed, candidates must be available to work as scheduled and are not authorized to work elsewhere or run a private company while employed by the City unless the City Manager gives written approval.
Random drug/alcohol/illegal substance testing may be conducted during the course of employment.
