JMPD Metro Police Training 2025 Intake – Now Open! The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality’s Public Safety Department (Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department – JMPD) has announced an exciting opportunity for young, disciplined, and motivated persons to apply for the 18-month Metro Police Officer Trainee Programme. This project is part of the city’s continuous efforts to reduce crime, promote law and order, and provide young job opportunities via rigorous professional training in law enforcement.

Job Description

Successful candidates will be enrolled in the JMPD Training Academy’s structured 18-month Metro Police Traineeship Programme. During this time, trainees will follow a thorough curriculum that includes physical training, theoretical education, and practical fieldwork. The training will help students prepare for a career in metropolitan policing.

Candidates who successfully complete the training will be considered for permanent employment as Qualified Metropolitan Police Officers under the City of Johannesburg authority. Following training, officers will be assigned to various precincts and operational units around Johannesburg.

Trainees must follow the JMPD Academy regulations, RTMC policies, and the City’s trainee development guidelines. A monthly stipend will be provided throughout the training period, and successful completion may result in permanent law enforcement posts.

JMPD Training 2025 Intake

Requirements:

Must be a South African citizen.
Possess a valid Senior Certificate (Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4).
Applicants must be residents of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Area (original evidence of residency required).
Have no criminal convictions or records.
Prepare to provide biometric data and other information to check for a criminal record.
Have a valid driver’s license (no learner’s permit required), with a minimum Code B.
Between the ages of 18 – 35 years.
Maintain physical and mental fitness. (A comprehensive medical certificate must be presented with the application).
Be able to undergo and successfully complete a pre-training fitness exam.
Has no civil judgments for fraud and/or corruption against his/her name.
Be prepared to go through screening processes.
Be fluent in English.
Have no objections, be willing to carry a pistol, and wear a uniform.

Personal attributes:

The incumbent must be dependable, honest, possess a strong sense of justice and honesty, have a good attitude, be patient, and be able to operate under pressure in all weather conditions and shift hours.

Terms of Training

Metro Police Trainees will be expected to complete an 18-month training program before being eligible for appointment as Metro Police Officers. Trainees shall be bound by the terms of their training contracts, Academy rules, and RTMC training policy during the training period. Trainees will be paid a stipend according to City policy.

Upon completion of training:
