    Job Overview:

    Johannesburg Water is seeking 10 skilled Artisan Bricklayers to join their team on a 12-month contract. The successful candidates will be responsible for carrying out bricklaying, paving, and concrete work associated with water and sewer network infrastructure.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Submit daily job cards and ensure all check sheets and overtime sheets are completed correctly.
    • Complete Vehicle Inspection sheets, Logbooks, and submit them weekly.
    • Submit petrol slips monthly as per Johannesburg Water Vehicle Policy.
    • Enforce workplace safety in compliance with OHASA, SANS, and Johannesburg Water (JW) Safety procedures.
    • Conduct risk assessments before entering excavations and use additional protective equipment as required.
    • Maintain effective communication in line with company values and ensure good industrial relations.
    • Construct walls, chambers, steps, pillars, culverts, valve, meter, and hydrant boxes.
    • Perform tiling, plastering, and excavation for foundations according to plans and specifications.
    • Mix cement and concrete as per specifications and construct forms for casting concrete slabs and decks.
    • Reinstate road kerbs, guttering, paving, and driveways as directed.
    • Assist in cutting and installing doors and windows in existing buildings.
    • Conduct building maintenance and repair outstanding work left by contractors or other departments.
    • Excavate, shore, and backfill trenches while ensuring safety compliance for subordinates.

    Job Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

    • Grade 10 or N1 (NQF2) qualification.
    • Bricklaying trade test certificate or Learnership NQF4.
    • 3 years of hands-on experience in bricklaying, paving (brick and concrete), and building.
    • Basic supervisory experience is an advantage.
    • Valid Code 10 Driver’s License with PrDP (Professional Driving Permit).

      Job Description

      • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on mechanical plant equipment, including pumps, level controls, PRVs, valves, and auxiliary systems.
      • Execute planned maintenance activities according to Johannesburg Water’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintenance schedules.
      • Respond to emergency breakdowns, perform troubleshooting, and provide immediate feedback to the Telemetry control room regarding callouts.
      • Conduct regular toolbox inspections and adhere to safety regulations as per OHASA and SANS codes of practice.
      • Communicate any irregular maintenance issues to the Operations Manager to ensure the optimal performance of all systems.
      • Assist in planning, organizing, and executing jobs efficiently within the section as directed by the Supervisor.
      • Investigate operational methods of pump stations and reservoirs to enhance overall system efficiency.
      • Ensure all work orders, check sheets, and overtime sheets are completed accurately and submitted on time.
      • Conduct daily vehicle inspections, maintain logbooks, and submit petrol slips in compliance with Johannesburg Water’s Vehicle Policy.

        Job Description:

        The Artisan Welder will be tasked with various welding and fabrication duties, including maintenance and repairs across six network regions. This includes working at five EM depots, Telemetry, Metering, Minor Plant, Electrical Sections, Reservoir Sites, and Sewer Pump Stations. The role also involves manufacturing both standard and non-standard reticulation components at the Welding Workshop.

        Key Responsibilities:

        • Accurately complete all work orders, check sheets, and overtime records and submit them before the end of each shift
        • Maintain detailed vehicle inspection sheets and logbooks daily, submitting them weekly to the Foreman
        • Submit petrol slips monthly as per Johannesburg Water’s vehicle policy
        • Supervise subordinates to ensure section goals and objectives are met
        • Provide daily feedback to the Foreman on job completion and planned jobs’ progress
        • Promote and maintain workplace safety in accordance with OHASA and Johannesburg Water codes of practice
        • Conduct daily inspections of welding equipment and report defects to the Workshop Foreman
        • Assess potential hazards before entering confined spaces or excavation sites
        • Manufacture, repair, and install water and sewer reticulation components
        • Assist contractors on network sites as instructed by the Foreman
        • Execute modifications on plant and equipment, including trailers, fuel tanks, and chassis
        • Rig and lift heavy pipes and reticulation components
        • Provide guidance and make on-site decisions regarding repair methodologies
        • Perform standby duties and respond to emergency call-outs efficiently
        • Assist in pre-planning material and resource allocation for scheduled operations
        • Conduct monthly tool and toolbox inspections

        • Proven experience in gas and arc welding (compulsory)
        • Basic supervisory experience is an advantage
        • Valid Code 10 Driver’s License with PrDP
