The NSFAS anticipates thousands of students to apply for bursaries and student loans. Here’s when NSFAS 2025 applications will close.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has officially started funding applications for 2025. Students and potential students are advised to apply early to prevent disappointment.
NSFAS offers comprehensive bursaries and student loans to eligible students enrolled in recognized courses at universities and TVET colleges. This includes funds for tuition and registration fees, as well as allowances for food, lodging, and educational materials.
Every year, the initiative receives over one million financial applications from students. This figure is expected to rise with the implementation of NSFAS loans for absent middle school pupils.
NSFAS applications for 2025 opened on 1 September 2024. The government bursary system indicated that students will have until November 30, 2024, to submit NSFAS 2025 applications funding.
This provides students a little over 80 days to submit their NSFAS 2025 applications.
Submit your NSFAS application by November 30, 2024.
To be eligible for an NSFAS bursary, a student must be registered or intending to enroll in an authorized qualification at a South African public university or TVET college.
The family income requirement for NSFAS bursaries is R350,000 per year. Students whose annual household income exceeds R350,000 are ineligible for NSFAS bursaries. These students may qualify for NSFAS loans.
Students with impairments may have a household income of up to R600,000 per year.
Step 1: Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
Step 2: Create a myNSFAS account.
Step 3: Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen.
Step 4: Upload required supporting documents where applicable.
Step 5: Click on ‘Submit’
Following the submission of the NSFAS 2025 application, NSFAS will commence its eligibility checks to ensure that the applicant is eligible for financing. Students who fail the NSFAS bursary home income check will be automatically considered for an NSFAS student loan.
Grant beneficiaries from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) get immediate funding decisions.
Once the financing decision is made, you will either be granted, needed to supply supporting documentation, or refused.
Students who are denied NSFAS funding can file an NSFAS appeal.
